Penders Field at Longbrook Park
Synthetic Turf Installation
The existing natural turf field was over-used, in poor shape and required heavy maintenance to shift usage from football to baseball. The challenge of this project was to provide a state-of-the-art synthetic turf field, improve spectator circulation and update baseball field amenities, while preserving existing perimeter infrastructure.
Improvements included the installation of a combination synthetic turf multipurpose rectangular field and baseball field. Walkways, facility access and ticketing were all enhanced with ornamental paving, walls and terracing that match the historic park facilities. Walkways, backstop, and baseball spectator areas were all renovated to improve internal circulation and accessibility throughout. Accents included stone walls, ornamental pavers and stone seating walls. New recessed dugouts were constructed with secure storage areas, benches and player storage. Existing lighting poles were preserved, and the existing lighting fixtures were repaired, re-lamped and re-aimed for the new surface. The renovated facility provides for previous athletic uses, and has the durability to allow expanded game and practice use of the facility without increased maintenance costs.
